Bill Cunningham: New York

This cute old man is a creative genius. In fact he's a genius in general. The kind of man that you just wish was your grandfather, with all his awesome old school principles that I wish we still abided by. He goes to every party worth going to in New York and won't accept any food or drink, not even a glass of water. He has one outfit, and a staple blue anorak. It's $20, and when it tears (which it does all the time because he cycles everywhere), he tapes it up. He is the antithesis of the industry he observes, and a kind of relic of old school society. The documentary about him is probably the greatest thing I have watched this year, and if you live in Auckland you should ABSOLUTELY go and see it.

In addition, it appears that everyone in my life has either gone to NY or is going. In the books I'm reading (Breakfast at Tiffany's), the films I'm watching (Bill Cunningham), the magazines I pick up (latest edition of Remix), New York seems to be everywhere. I have even downloaded the Guidepal Travel App on my phone in anticipation. Now, just have to arrange the $2500 for airfares, and the accommodation. . . . . donations anyone?

"Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life. I don’t think you could do away with it. It would be like doing away with civilization" - Bill Cunningham.
